LESSONS LEARNED
UNIVERSITY COOPERATION UNDER CONFLICT CONDITIONS
Higher education plays a key role in the cooperation with areas affected by conflict and requires strategies to prepare coming generations for their future tasks.
Scientific cooperation offers chances to build up academic infrastructure as well as improve its quality. Academic cooperation contributes in the long term to sustainable progress in society and economy. The scientists involved gain a multitude of experiences and qualifications which enable them to later fill in keypositions and become multipliers in international collaboration.
But working in conflict areas comes at a cost. Unexpected political developments, the instable security situation and ongoing conflict situations continuously influence common activities, could threaten the international cooperation and pose special challenges for all participants involved. The tasks in question are complex for all parties involved. Despite many setbacks, many positive developments can be achieved.
This workshop aims to provide insight into the challenges of academic cooperation with Afghanistan and offers a setting for delving into related questions. Offering insights in „Afghan“ perspectives and viewpoints in the process of Higher Education Development as well as providing facts and backgrounds and how Afghan universities try to cope with challenges are focus of this workshop.
